WHAT MAKES OUR MODERN – DAY DIET LOOSE NUTRIENTS
a) Refining and processing of foods – These
decreases the nutritional value of foods as large percentage of nutrients are
destroyed in the process. The addition of colorants, flavorants and
preservative also impact negatively on our health.
b) Soil deficient in minerals – Our soils has
been depleted of zinc and other important trace minerals
c) Use of chemicals- farmers uses chemicals, such
as fertilities, pesticides and fungicides which deplete valuable nutrients in
our vegetables and fruits.
d) Genetic engineering (G. E) encourages massive
food production with low nutritional value e.g. the naturally grown wheat grain
contains about 50-50% ratio of HDL and LDL (the good lipids and the bad
lipids). Through G.E. the lipid, HDL is reduced to 5%.
e) Storage and freezing depletes nutrients
content in our frozen
foods.
f) Cooking methods destroys large portion of
nutrients in food e.g. potatoes have a good source of vitamin C, when fried it
loses about 85% of this vitamin.
g) Too much refined carbohydrates replace our
need for the other valuable nutrients.
h) The use of aluminum cookery depletes the food
of valuable nutrients; it is the major cause of Alzheimer’s diseases and memory
loss.
(i) White sugar depletes some of the body’s
valuable nutrients (especially vitamins A and
(ii) Low fiber foods (refined foods).
The body is designed to
receive a well balanced nutrition per day. There is a tremendous relationship
between what we consume and how we live and look. Without the appropriate
nutrients and enzymes, food sources like proteins, carbohydrate and fats cannot
be converted to energy.
